William Wong

William Wong is a native of Hong Kong. In 1975, William immigrated to the United States to further his education. William entered a private high school in Tennessee in preparation for retaking the Gallaudet University entrance exam. After earning his second High School diploma, William moved back to California where he attended Ohlone College during the summer of 1977. While at Ohlone College, William was elected as the second President of the Asian Society of the Deaf in 1978. In 1980, William earned an Associated of Arts degree in liberal arts. He subsequently transferred to Gallaudet University where he founded the Oriental Club in 1982. The Oriental Club was later renamed and became the Asian Pacific Islander Association (APIA). He graduated from Gallaudet with a B.A. degree in Computer Math (Computer Science). William then earned his Master’s degree in Special Education from San Francisco State University in 1989. In 1995, William was the first President elected for the Bay Area Asian Deaf Association (BAADA), one year after the 1994 Access Silent Asian (ASA) conference was held at San Francisco, California. In 1997, William was elected to be first President of National Asian Deaf Congress (NADC) during the 2nd NADC conference in Los Angles, California. William continued to be active with NADC, providing advice as a past President to the Executive Board. William was the co-chair of the 5th NADC 2007 Conference in San Francisco. Also, William was on the planning committee of BAADA in 2014, when BAADA hosted the 7th NADC conference at Berkeley City College. William was once again elected to serve a 2nd term as President of NADC from 2014-2024. Presently, William is Deaf Studies and Math Professor at Ohlone Community College, teaching Mathematics and ASL for 34 years. William earned a doctorate in educational leadership for social justice at California State University East Bay (CSUEB) in 2023. William is married to Amelia, who is from Taiwan. They have two hearing grown up children, Jeremy, 29 and Gabriella, 38. When not working, William enjoys traveling, reading the Bible, and watching movies.
